Tile Installations on a Bathroom Remodel for the DIY consumer.

One thing that I always come across on Bathroom Remodels is that some consumers don’t realize how important it is to have the tile they’ve selected for their bathroom project to be installed by a professional. I have seen bathroom projects in person and online where you can see that the consumer had a good design idea and also that they selected the right color combinations and fixtures but when the tile was installed the quality of the tile installation was done poorly and it takes away from the look of the bathroom. I have been doing bathroom remodeling long enough to tell anyone spending money on a bathroom remodel not to do the tile installation themselves unless that’s their profession. Even a tile installer that has been installing “floor” tiles only, for years, is not qualified to install tile on a bathroom project. The proper techniques and knowledge to install the tiles, the proper tools and setting materials are much more advanced than your typical floor tile installation project will need. Measurements have to be more exact when it comes to the layouts since you have to take into consideration many factors such as how the tile is finished off when it doesn’t end at a wall, you have to take into account where shower doors will be installed, how to finish off a shower curb, a window or a niche depending on what size tile you have, what type of tile you have. Accent tiles are very popular on bathroom walls now but if you don’t have experience in installing some of these accent tiles, which some are made of glass, stone, river rocks and even metal, you can wind up making the installation look bad and you will regret spending all that money on those accent tiles since they’re not cheap. The installation of the shower floor should also be left to the professional, from laying the concrete and pitching it to the drain to installing the floor tile on top of that mortar bed. I have done bathroom projects where the customer has bought inexpensive tile and because they selected a good color combination and a good installer the project came out fantastic with the use of some accent tiles on the walls. So if you consider yourself to be a handy person then remember that the finish work is crucial in any project and you should only do it yourself if your highly confident you can make it look like a pro did it. You can trim the cost of your project in areas that you are confident in and hire a professional to do the parts you’re not sure you can make it look like a professional did it.
